Wheel throwing extension for beginner wheel students
Class description
If you have completed the Beginner Wheel Course, you can enrol in the extension course. An additional 5 week course building upon the skills and knowledge you have learnt in the beginner course. Lesson plan: Week 1: Throwing a cylinder and modifying the shape to make a jug, add a spout. Different shapes will be shown on a diagram and demonstrated by Fiona. Throwing taller will be demonstrated as well and encouraged. Week 2: Throwing a wide bowl for a fruit bowl. Students will choose their amount of clay but I will demonstrate with 2kgs how to centre a larger amount and make a fruit bowl. Turning and adding handles to week one’s jugs. Students are encouraged to find time in the week to turn their fruit bowls. Week 3: Throwing a plate. I will demonstrate to throw a small and larger plate. Week 4: Throwing lids. I will throw a cylinder and add a gallery to fit a lid. I will then throw a few different sorts of lids to fit the cylinder pot. Week 5: Students practise all the shapes and techniques they have learned. I will advise and critique where necessary. Materials required: Cone 6 clay. Available for purchase at the studio Tools preferred but not essential: wire, metal triangle, trimming tool, sponge, rib. Firing costs $6 per kg of bisqueware.
