About
The Whanganui Community Arts Centre was established in 1990 to provide a venue for local artists and craftspeople to exhibit and sell their work. Utilizing the former New Zealand railways bus maintenance depot building on Taupo Quay the Community Arts Council turned the large empty space into a gallery, a studio and a meeting area for local artists and crafts people. Over the years they have exhibited everything from paintings to pottery, and installation to performance.
The Community College had allowed the Potters Society to use the Mulligan Lane garage for a time, however this new Taupo Quay development enabled a 'Potters Patch' to be created in a small room located on the north side of the building.
